Center for International Language Service and Management of UIBE

The Center for International Language Service and Management, UIBE was established in April 2015, on the basis of the former Center for Applied Linguistics Studies. In the context of Chinese culture and Chinese enterprises “Going Out”, UIBE established this Center with aims to transforming and upgrading its applied linguistics discipline, integrating academic and industrial resources, and accelerating research achievement transformation. The Center is a good platform to carry out researches and applications on the language service field, and to contribute its efforts to develop the social economy.

Under its own philosophies as “openness, integration, innovation and cooperation”, the Center actively attracts the joining of UIBE experienced scholars on the one hand, and invites the participation of language service experts at home and abroad as invited researchers on the other hand. With its increasingly strengthening scientific research team, the Center has been engaged in tracing hotspots and key research directions based on the development situations of international and domestic language markets, condensing its research orientations, expanding its innovative research team, organizing and participating in academic activities, and creatively developing teaching, research and application assignments.

The Center focuses its teaching and research on language service and language management. In the teaching aspect, the Center offers such language-service-related courses like Introduction to Language Services, Translation Terminology, Localization, Computer-Aided Translation, Technical Communication and Technical Writing and Translation Project Management. In the research aspect, the Center carries out many scientific researches such as Study on Language Service Demand for Chinese Enterprises to "Go Out", Research on Management of Enterprise Language Assets, Research on Strategy of Enterprise Language Service, and Research on Assessment of Enterprise Language Service Maturity.

Following national “One Belt and One Road” initiatives, the Center places its research priority on Chinese standards “Going Out”, studying standards and standardization from the perspective of language service. The Center’ s tasks include implementing researches for various levels, integrating language service and cultural resources, preparing language service-related market research reports, monographs and textbooks, and educating postgraduates. The Center is designed to upgrade UIBE’s strength on translation studies, promote the discipline construction and development for Applied Linguistics, Sociolinguistics and Translation Studies, and improve UIBE’s academic level as well as academic status.
